Subject: Advertising Netiquette
     I really did NOT mean to cause such a stir ... I was merely pointing out that the vast majority of "lists, 
newsgroups, BB's, etc." prefer that we do not  post commercial advertisements.  In fact, there is a group (sorry, their name  escapes me) that is looking into how commercial ventures might exploit the  internet matrix and its extensive coverage.
     I certainly believe in freedom of speech and the generous free-flow of  uncensored information.  It's good for all of us.  One of the suggestions was that commercial entities could make themselves known through a brief, non-advertisement and interested parties could then contact them at will. Sounds like an appropriate solution.  Alternatively, given that this is  "our" list, we could opt to allow/invite/encourage commercial ventures  to advertise/make themselves and their capabilities known. 
     There aren't any "rules" (implicit or explicit) that I know of that say within our own group we can't do thus-and-such.
     Do we need to bring this up for formal discussion and a vote?
