At Martin Marietta (Orlando) we have on occasion built small and large
electronic housings containing PC boards, chips, harnesses and an assortment
of other components. To take it a step further we have built hybrid electronic
assemblies such as complex handgrips that contain real buttons and harness
assemblies. From my viewpoint the marriage of RP and any machined or
standard off the shelf component is a natural fit. The real challenge is
coordination of the players to make it happen fast. In the area of materials
the RP vendors need to continue making materials (resins/epoxies/etc..) that
approach and will someday meet engineering requirements.
