Subject: Helysis LOM Questions
We are considering purchasing a rapid prototyping system for the college.
Our budget is quite restricted and the Helysis LOM system appears to be
within reach and has most of the features that we are looking for. The
applications that we will be using the system for are hard to predict, so
we are hoping to build as much flexibility in up front as we can afford.
Our main work will be in models of ferrous and non-ferrous castings,
patterns, and relatively simple injection moulded parts that will most
likely not have a lot of fine detail.

The CAD system we will be using to generate the SLA files from is an
Intergraph I/EMS system. We will be purchasing the I/3Dsys module for this.

I am interested in receiving responses from anyone with comments on the
above. I am particularly interested in hearing comments on the following:

1	Hearing from anyone with experience on the Helysis LOM system

2	Suggestions on other systems to consider that have near the same
	entry costs.

3	Hearing form anyone using I/EMS for output to a rapid prototyping
	system.

4	I read a press release some months back about a low cost system
that IBM was in the process of bringing to market. I have not seen
or heard anything since. Has anyone heard of this ?
