     Looks like a good topic to me.  I have experience with three CAD 
     system's .stl output -- AutoCad, ComputerVision, and CATIA.
     
     Of the three, I find ComputerVision makes the worst .stl files, with 
     many bad triangles.  CV also makes very large files as curves are 
     approximated with very fine resolution.  ComputerVision makes its own 
     .stl translator.
     
     AutoCad makes a pretty decent file, considering the low cost of the 
     system.  Curved surfaces, however may be a bit course for top of the 
     line models.  .stl translators for AutoCad are third party.
     
     CATIA I really like.  I wish all my .stl files were created on CATIA.  
     There are very few bad triangles, and I've never had to send a file 
     back to the designer for repair.  .stl translators for CATIA are 
     available either from CATIA or third party.  My experience is with the 
     CATIA version.
