Has anyone heard of or used the Viepoint DataSet Catalogue and DataShop
CD Rom? I believe that these contain a selection of hundreds of 3D CAD files
that you can buy for between $250 & $500 each, to be manipulated, mutilated
and masticated in any way you like, including making an StL file. Viewpoint not
only sells its own sets but also brokers the models of others.
(See the November '94 Wired magazine (P.45) for a review).

This is one of the cottage industry opportunities Marshall Burns presciently
mentions in his book: "Automated Fabrication, Improving Productivity in
Manufacturing" (Prentice Hall, 1993 P.309) where he calls them "soft designs".

Publisher is Viewpoint DataLabs International, (800) 328 2738 or
(801) 229 3000

I'd be interested to know if anyone has any experience of Viewpoint,
as well as a European phone no. for them.
