Laboratory Manager, Rapid Prototyping and Manufacturing Lab

Description of Duties:  
Build, operate and maintain the CIMS Department's Rapid Prototyping and
Manufacturing (RPM) educational laboratory.  Handle lab safety, instruction,
administration, supervision, and development.  Purchase capital equipment
and supplies.  Perform preventative maintenance, and coordinate major
maintenance tasks with external providers for several different rapid
prototyping devices.  Assist faculty in developing RPM-related education and
research programs.  Serve as liaison to industry to define and execute
specific RPM projects.  Operate a stereolithography (SLA) device and other
RP devices, and produce prototype parts.  Clean and finish parts.  Develop
new RPM methods. Train others to operate, or to assist in operating,
equipment in lab.  Supervise graduate laboratory assistants.  Document all
activities in lab.  Occasionally perform troubleshooting, supervision or
other special duties during non-standard hours.

Education:
Bachelors or Masters degree in engineering or engineering technology.

Experience:
A minimum of 4-5 years in a manufacturing environment.  Experience working
on team projects and in leading team efforts.  Strong computer skills a
must.  Preference for: individual with established contacts in companies and
universities using RPM; experience with stereolithography, selective laser
sintering, and other RP devices; working knowledge of ProEngineer and other
popular CAD systems; experience with UNIX-based computer workstations.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
 30%	Manage daily operation of lab, document activities, and supervise
graduate student laboratory assistants.
 20%	Work with industry on special projects.
 20%	Assist and advise faculty members in program development.
 10%	Train students and faculty in the safe operation of lab equipment.
 10%	Operate machines and finish parts.
  5%	Perform and supervise maintenance and acquire equipment and supplies.
