Dear Colleague,

The next ISIE'97 (International Symposium on Industrial Electronics 1997),
is on the 7-11 July 1997 at Universidade do Minho in Guimaraes (Portugal).

We would like to extend a cordial invitation to you to participate
on the ISIE'97 and to enjoy the spectacular characterists of the area
where this symposium will take place.

By accepting this invitation, you will take part in a forum whose purpose
is the presentation and discussion of the state of the art of
Industrial Electronics and related areas.

Abstracts will be accepted until 15 December 1996.

Topics within the scope of symposium include:
- Factory Automation
- Power Electronics
- Robotics, Vision and Sensors
- Signal Processing and Control
- Emerging Tecnologies (Fuzzy, Neural Nets, AI, Inteligent Mechatronics, ..)

Works with originality and real contributions to the technical areas
within the scope are very welcome.
We honestly believe you'll enjoy taking part in this conference.

The purpose of this symposium is to provide a forum for presentation
and discussion of the state-of-art of Industrial Electronics and
related areas. Topics within the scope of the symposium will
include:
FACTORY AUTOMATION: factory communications, flexible manufacturing,
manufacturing system architecture, industrial automation, process
automation, CAD/CAM/CAT/CIM.
POWER ELECTRONICS: Power electronics devices and systems, high
frequency power converters, digital control of power electronics,
energy systems, electrical drives, static VAR and harmonic
compensations, and analytical and simulation analysis methods.
ROBOTICS, VISION AND SENSORS: Advanced robotics, intelligent sensors,
machine vision and intelligence, actuators and motion control,
microelectro-mechanical systems, multisensor fusion and
integration, and autonomous mobile robots.
SIGNAL PROCESSING AND CONTROL: Advanced control and measurement,
computer and microprocessor based control, data reduction and
signal processing, estimation and identification techniques,
instrumentation electronics, automotive electronics, human
interfaces, software design tools, and non-linear control and
systems.
EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES: Neural networks, fuzzy control, AI and expert
systems, algorithms, intelligent mechatronics, concurrent
engineering, medical electronics, virtual reality and
telesensation, multimedia.

Special Session: The conference will feature several special
sessions, tutorials and invited sessions. If you are interested
in organizing any of these please contact Prof.Carlo Cecati,
fax:+39-862-434-450, email:cecati@ing.univaq.it.

Cultural Activities: Several tours and cultural activities
are being organized. Portugal is noted for its wine and food,
spectacularly sited castles, medieval hilltop villages, excellent
beaches, and friendly people. Summer temperatures are moderate,
not hot.

Submission Format: Prospective authors are invited to submit
four copies of an abstract and summary in English, formatted as
follows. First page: title, authors, mailing address of each
author, telephone and fax numbers, e-mail addresses. Second page:
title authors, 200 word abstract, and the submission area. Third
and succeeding pages: title, 2000-word summary, figures and
references. It should include a clearly defined problem statement
supported by the relevant references. It should state why the
work was undertaken and what are its outcomes. The development
description should be comprehensive enough to allow the
assessment of the work's originality and contribution to the
technical area. The summary should also provide conclusions and
recommendations for further work.

PS: The population of Guimaraes is about 35,000 and dates back to
Celtic and Moorish origins which have been preserved. A large area
in the center of town have been refurbished and dates back to
about 1400AD. The conference reception will take place in a palace
dating back to medieval times and the banquet will be held in a
restored medieval monastery. I hope you can join us for an
exceptional technical and cultural journey in a relatively
unspoiled moderately priced environment where the people
 welcome our conference.
