I downloaded the software a couple of months ago and have been looking
at the beta development. In my opinion, this is exactly what the
surface/solid modeling world has needed for some time. With Rhino and
Trispectives, we're seeing a shift in the price point and capabilities
of 3-d software much like the shift that took place with the
introduction of Photoshop and others in the Image manipulation world.
We all know what happened after that. With software (and hardware)
tools within the reach of the average enthusiast, the desktop publishing
industry was born. The same transition is taking place in 3-d and this
can only be a good thing for RP.

I use Varimetrix, Fastsurf and Autosurf on a regular basis. Rhino seems
to be quite capable in comparison, especially in the area of contoured
"organic" surfacing. I also like the user interface and the real-time
updating of orthogonal views. It doesn't have some of the engineering
features of VX, like parametric/variational geometry, but I don't think
they intend to compete in this area anyway.
