Stratasys FDM 2000 - "48% faster than an SLA 250/40"

I have a neat little software package working for me that sends me
customized press releases as soon as they appear. I believe the following
news item is very new, and I shall save Stratasys the trouble of posting it
to the list.

        (STRATASYS)(SSYS) Stratasys announces new high-speed FDM 2000 rapid
        prototyping system

         MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 12, 1997--Stratasys Inc.
        (NASDAQ NMS:SSYS) announced today the latest addition to the FDM
        line of rapid prototyping systems.

            The new FDM(R)2000 incorporates several technological advances
        that greatly enhance throughput. Commercial shipments are targeted
        to begin this month.

            Stratasys also announced an automated and easy-to-use QuickSlice
        4.1, the newest release of the company's proprietary operating
        software. Due to the user's ability to control build parameters,
        the FDM(R)2000 achieves parts with a smoother surface finish.

            The FDM(R)2000 has been found to have up to 48% faster
        throughput than an SLA 250/40, when building the industry-standard
        speedometer adapter benchmark part which was run on both the
        FDM(R)2000 and the SLA250/40.

            Jon Cobb, vice president of marketing, stated, "As the leading
        unit supplier of rapid prototyping (RP) systems in 1996, Stratasys
        shipped 60% more total units than its nearest competitor in RP
        systems during 1996. Maintaining our leadership is important to us.
        The technological advances of the FDM(R)2000, such as fine surface
        finish and fast throughput, are key elements to preserving that
        lead."

            The FDM(R)2000 can build models up to 254x254x254mm
        (10x10x10in), within +/- .127mm (.005in) accuracy, and in a variety
        of materials: ABS, medical-grade ABS, and investment casting wax.
        With ABS, users can create functional prototypes for both testing
        and final design verification since many products are made from ABS.
        The system currently operates on Hewlett-Packard, Silicon Graphics,
        Sun Microsystems and Windows NT workstations. FDM rapid prototyping
        systems are sold directly in North America and through a network of
        distributors internationally.
