(MEDICAL-DESIGN-&-MFG) Three full days of technical conference
sessions at Minneapolis Medical Design and Manufacturing show

      SANTA MONICA, Calif.--(BW HealthWire)--May 29, 1997--The third
Medical Design and Manufacturing (MD&M) Minneapolis Conference and
Exposition will be held Nov. 4-6, 1997, at the Minneapolis
Convention Center, and is expected to attract more than 3,300
  industry professionals.

This year's MD&M Minneapolis show will boast three full days of
technical conference sessions. Led by industry experts, a few of
the topics covered will include the FDA's new Quality System
Regulation (QSR), the latest in packaging standards and technology,
Microelectromechanical Systems and Rapid Prototyping case studies
  of medical OEMs.

In the first part of an all-day session, FDA representatives
will outline and interpret the QSR system, which places greater
emphasis on design controls and establishes new expectations for
the preparation of premarket notifications. Topics in this session
will include design input and review, biocompatibility, design-
history files, labeling and preparing 510(k) submissions.

In the second part of the session in the afternoon, FDA
speakers will discuss the implications of new regulations, focusing
on collateral issues of design control, harmonization and
  electronic design.

Microelectromechanical Systems (MEMS) may be the wave of the
medical device future and a three-and-a-half-hour morning session
on Nov. 5 will take a close-up look at some intriguing applications
for miniaturized medical devices and diagnostic instruments. The
discussion will also address miniaturized fluid-handling systems,
describing both fluidic and robotic methods for interconnecting
  miniature fluid pathways.

Other key conference sessions include materials
characterization, trends in biocompatibility standards, human
factors in the design of medical devices and a special workshop
sponsored by the Adhesion Society that deals with the ability of
medical devices to maintain water-resistant bonds inside the human
  body.

Sponsored by Medical Device & Diagnostic Industry magazine,
MD&M Minneapolis is part of a worldwide series of medical
manufacturing trade conferences and exhibitions that includes shows
in California, New York, Florida and Minnesota; the Medical
Equipment Design & Technology Exhibition & Conference (MEDTEC) in
the Netherlands; and catalogue showcases in Europe, Asia and South
  America.

The Minneapolis regional show provides access to the latest
information for suppliers from the dynamic southeastern region,
which is the headquarters of more than 2,000 medical product
  manufacturers.

MD&M Minneapolis is sponsored by Medical Device & Diagnostic
Industry magazine, which is published by CANON COMMUNICATIONS LLC.
Other industry-related CANON publications include Medical Product
Manufacturing News, Medical Plastics & Biomaterials, Medical
