aluminum filled epoxy is used to make rapid injection molded plastic molds. the mold cavity is made directly as an RP part, then back filled with aluminum filled epoxy with copper tubing cast in to remove heat from the mold while in use. These molds are good for up to 1000 parts, 250 parts typical. this info is from a presentation by Paul Jacobs on rapid tooling at a UCLA extension course in May. the pressure of the injection molded material keeps the RP mold cavitiy from deforming at the elevated temperature.
