---------------------------------

According to the current issue of "Rapid Prototyping Report" the
feedrate speed for the Quantum is as high as ten inches per second.
Stratasys' other X/Y travel (tie rods and cables) subsystem can do two
inches per second. So the new method's feedrate can be five times
faster. I wonder how rapid rates compare (when the heads are not
applying mat'l. - i.e. from the brushes to the start/end point of a
     road)?

Another thing I wonder is what happens if a Quantum loses power? Do
the heads come crashing down onto the model being run and/or bed of
the machine since they're riding on a cushion of air and moved via
magnetic drive? Or is there some sort of tether that suspends them in
     such a case?

I had opportunity to see one of the new Stratasys Quantums in
action
     last week (at Stratasys).

Although I did not have the benefit of a stopwatch and/or
calculator
to give you exact numbers, I can tell you it runs REALLY FAST!
It was
laying down ABS at a rate that was easily 2 to 3 times that of my
     FDM8000.

I hope they offer an upgrade price.
