hi list,

using STL for FE meshes seems like agood idea intially....but it does has a
high computation bottleneck in actual fact.

i had worked with FEMAP....and using that to generate solids like
orthogonals from the STL entities.
two facts discovered are :-
1) STL files must be closed!!!
2) complicated STL with more than 100,000 polygons are very slow....can
even cause the FEMAP software to halt as there are not enough resources to
create the meshings. not to mention, we will always like to refine the
triangular meshes further before meshing proceed.

i am still working with this idea....and will let the list know if there
are better ways of doing.

Sincerely,
joseph sim

ps - by the way, i believe the objections to discuss FE in this mailing
list must have solid grounds/reasons....if yes, pls specify...since FE can
also be integrated into RP....as i understand that some of the FDM users
are doing too.

pss - occassional jokes should be allowed too.
