Elaine,

I think the CAM market is so fragmented because compatibility isn't an
issue. The output of the CAM software is the tool path used to generate
the finished part and is very machine specific. The person using the
package knows what machine it is going on and the output is used
exclusively for that machine. Compare that to a modeling package. The
output of the package could go any number of places: RP, production,
analysis, graphics. Because the transfer mediums (iges, etc) are less than
perfect it is advantageous to use what everyone else is using. Machine
shops don't care what anyone else is using outside of their organization.
