Impregnating plastics with lubricants like usually does not change the basic
characteristics of the base material, though because the materials are not
continous the usually do not have the same mechancal properties in terms of
tensile strenght and elastic modulus, etc. per area .
The main change is lubricity of the material and wear properties of the
materials. Silicones are usually not hydroscopic though some are. Also if the
silicone leaches out of the plastic it is possible for water to ocupy the
resulting voids.
