Hello list
A while ago, it was suggested that coating actua parts with a certain
plastic spray would make them more durable. I havenīt been able to find
out more about it. Could anyone please describe the product so I can
check whether it is available in my neck of the woods. Product name,
manufacturer, type of material etc would me much appreciated.

Also, a good (but still not perfect) way of transporting actua parts is
by using sawdust or -chip in combination with larger pieces of foam,
chips etc. Fill the box tight with it, making sure the parts are
surrounded by fine sawdust/woodchip.

Dear Bengt:

I've heard of using "Plasti Dip" a "heavy duty flexible rubber coating," to
quote the can, on Actua parts, it is available in a spray can or in liquid
form in a can for brush-on or dipping. This is the same stuff used for
dipping tool handles into for an insulating coating. It is available in a
few basic colors such as red, white, and green in addition to the clear
coating. It is available in most hardware store here in the US. It runs
about $6 -$9 US dollars per 11 oz. (312 g) spray can. I'm not sure where
you can get it in Europe but I'm sure if you call them they can help.

The Plasti-Dip spray has toluene, naphtha, hexane, methyl ethyl ketone
(MEK), and aliphatic hydrocarbons so you might want to be careful how much
you use from the spray can or you might end up melting your Actua parts with
these solvents - the brush-on or dip application might be the safer way to
go if there is any concern for accuracy.

It is manufactured by:

PDI, Inc.
P.O. Box 130
Circle Pines, MN 55014
Phone: (612) 785-2156

or you can buy it online from the d-mail catalog at:
