1. We're using an HP 4mm DAT drive and WinTar-SCSI from
http://www.spiralcomm.com/. Although we only use it infrequently, it seems
to work well.

2. WinTar does support different blocking factors. IBM generally uses fixed
block size (I don't remember exactly what). Sun uses variable block size.
I've had success with both.

1. I am interested in knowing what tape hardware and conversion software
people are using to read tar files on 4mm dat tapes into Windows NT. In
the past I have successfully used a 4mm scsi tape reader from HP and
NovaTar to convert the files. What other combinations are being used
successfully?

2. Are different blocking factors used by different UNIX workstations to
write the tape? Does software that you are using handle this ?
