hi Mr. Craig,

i don't think that your points in here are just for idlic musing.

i agree with you....there is a BIG area in the reverse engineering arena
where slowly rapid prototyping and tooling may have to depend on its
creation and modification.

in the area of rapid prototyping, i believe that you are more interested if
there can be near exact materials to your requirements....well let us hope
that there can be one ideal material that can change its properties to
various conditions so that different properties can be exhibited.....and
ideal may not even happen within this few years i presume.

an interesting reverse engineering idea that can sprout from this idea of
yours is the equivalence of the surface quality to the hardness of the
imprint....suppose a "weak" step on the sand will not produce a very
impressionable surface....but for a strong footstep...we can see better
defined imprint on the sand...hence, the surface curvature and continuities
to various patches can be made to equivalent the impact of the step.

will you think this idea of correlating the surface quality with the impact
strength be a possibility?
