Hello,

I am a student at Univ. of Utah, Mech Engg. I am in Rapid Prototyping group
at U of Utah.

I am working on making a comparitive study on the various software used in
RP. It will be used as a statistic for the RP home page that we are going
to make for our group. So I have a few questions for users of RP machines
or RP bureaus. If anybody has any information already collected on these
lines then I'd be thankful to have the same.

1. Do you prefer to use a certain CAD sys. over other while creating a part
of certain nature ? What would be comparitive advantages/disadvantages of
each of Pro/E, SolidWorks, AutoCad etc. ?

2. If you make a part using a certain CAD sys. ( say Pro/E ) and make the
same using say ,SolidWorks, is there a difference in the Rapid Prototype
created from these files. If yes then what is the nature of difference (
if accuracies and surface finishes are involved then can I have the numbers
please ? )

3.What software do you use with RP system ( native system software OR third
party software ) ? ( for example - people use Materialise - Magics RP
software). The reason/s why you prefer it. ( Why you'd prefer
Magics/Maestro to the software that comes with SLA ? )

4.Do you use any in-house developed software ? What does it achieve ?

5.A software wishlist, so that people may work on what you need.

6.Your experience with STL files, hardware specific software issues ( like
certain software working good with one RP system but not with some other )
or accuracies being depending on software used etc.

Besides these, if you have any thoughts/wishes/observations on the subject
then please do let us know.

If you know of someone who may have this sort of information then direct me
to him/her OR forward this mail.

Ultimately this info will be reflected in our RP home page. I will post
results/conclusions of the study. This information would help me a lot if I
can get it before 12th of this month , but nevertheless it will be useful.
Thanking you in anticipation

regards,
Vipul
