RE: Prototyping with Consumer Focus Group Services Needed

Michele,

SRI International provides most of what you are looking for. The Engineering group designs and builds functional prototypes of the most advanced technology products here in Menlo Park, California. For many types of consumer electronics products, we might refer you instead to our Princeton, New Jersey subsidiary, the Sarnoff Corporation. Both sites have their own machine shops in-house. We also have product testing laboratories, clean rooms, and various off-site testing facilities for specialty kinds of products.

For focus groups, we rely on the Values and Lifestyles (trademark; VALS, trademark) psychographic market segmention system developed by SRI nearly thirty years ago for predicting consumer purchasing behavior. Rather than the random focus groups you will get from some organizations, or some of the ethnographic studies that are not correlated to demographics, the VALS system allows you to segment your focus groups, correlate their inputs to actual purchasing behavior, attach a definitive population number to the outcome, and define an innovation diffusion path into the market place (which group is early adopters, versus secondary, versus late adopters).
