Francois,
You are able to convert polymeshes into polysurfaces (and vise versa) using
Rhino3D.
Rhino's beta can be downloaded for free from their site. The command for
mesh to NURBS surface is "MESHTONURB"
and STL to mesh would be the command "MESH".
