Dear List:

In recent communications there have been several references to EDM work.
In this age of rapid manufacturing, I thought the subscribers would like to
hear about the advantages of using lasers to engrave EDM electrodes. We
are currently using our laser marking system to engrave graphite and metal
EDM electrodes for the tool and die industry. The laser marker permits the
engraving of detailed artwork currently not achievable with CNC machining.

Depths of 0.045" can be achieved in graphite in a realitively short period
of time. The precision of the laser marking system permits a series of
identical electrodes to be quickly fabricated. In addition to being a
rapid process, laser engraving has the added advantage of leaving virtually
no dust or residue on the workstation. Metal EDM electrodes take longer to
engrave, but depths of 0.012"-0.015" can be achieved in a reasonable period
of time.

Please contact me if you would like additional information on this
technology that is currently finding wide acceptance in the tool and die
industry.
