In the email before last, you apologized for using form Z as a program
that was maybe not sophisticated enough. Form Z is a very sophisticated
program and is excellent at creating designs for manufacture as well as
for architecture, animation, industrial design, sculpture, jewelry,
etc.,. Its affordable, in the US $1500-2500 range. Its a nurbs and
polygonal modeler. It has some parametric features, and at the higher
end has raytracing.
It is a tool that can be used precisely with numeric input and
intuitively as a 3D clay form builder.
It may lack some features of modelers costing thousands more but it has
some fabulous features that modelers costing thousands can't touch.
In terms of CAD University on line, I think that the field is so diverse
that such a thing would be quite difficult to implement. One could have
a specific cad university on line, say for pro e or unigrapyhics or
formz or rhino. But to include all of them, well would you like to
manage that facility?
I keep encouraging the people in this industry to reach out a little.
Why not bundle a silly program like "nendo" which is available for
US$100 with all rp systems. Its fun, its easy, it makes cool things. It
makes 3D models that can easily be built by rp systems. Encourage
everyone to take it home and put it on their computers for their kids to
play with. And start building a broader base of users that way. The
fruition of this is certainly 10 years off, but when it hits, wow.
I have a buddy who's two kids, a 5 year old and a 7 year old, can run
rhino better than he can.
