University Research Studentship:
Medical Engineering & Image Processing (Ref RS260)
(Funding to cover all tuition fees plus annual bursary £6,500 for three years)
The University of Wolverhampton Engineering Division is establishing a
Medical Engineering Research and Development Group. A number of research
projects are already under way in the area of
rapid prototyping of human organs from CT images
rapid prototyping of human organs from CT images
functional brain imaging using fMRI and SPECT,
data fusion of functional and structural images
3D modeling of human organs
diagnostics of cardiovascular disease from SPECT images
sports science - physiological assessment of sports equipment
tumor detection in breasts using digitised mammograms
The student will be expected to choose a research project from one of the
above fields, or propose a research project themselves which is mutually
acceptable to both parties. The research projects will be carried out at
the University of Wolverhampton and in collaboration with our partners in
the local hospitals and medical engineering industry. The post will require
a mix of analytical skills and knowledge depending on the choice of project
but will attract a person with a physical science, engineering,
mathematics, computing or medical background.
Candidates must have a good honours degree in either physical science,
engineering, mathematics, computing or medical discipline, and experience
of using computing packages. Obviously experience with engineering or
computing in a medical setting would be an advantage.
Applications are invited for this three-year research studentship fully
funded by the University of Wolverhampton at the School of Engineering and
Built environment.
