3D's press release 5/30:

sreleases/index.asp

[...The new technology, "tunability," uses the company's SLAŽ systems, which
employ a laser to harden liquid resin into a solid object. The resin's
mechanical properties can be "tuned" to have different characteristics in
different areas of the finished product, all from a single vat of material.

Until now, a model built using solid imaging equipment could only exhibit a
single set of mechanical properties.

"With this technology, manufacturers could theoretically make a part that's
flexible on one end and rigid on the other," said Mervyn Rudgley, senior
director of business development for materials. "We're working to make this
type of application a reality in the near future." ...]

Thanks,

Giorgos Hatzilias
