We've been beta testing a new ceramic material developed by Brent Stucker at the Univ. of R.I. with some success. It is a ceramic powder with a phenolic binder. It is post cured in an oven, infiltrated with a high temp epoxy, and cured again in the oven. We have had limited experience with varying geometries. We have been successful so far, but are still tweeking it.
