RE: RP in the Netherlands / Benelux / Europe?

i don't want to sound negative, but i think something more fundamental is
being overlooked here. because of workload, material selection, urgency,
and a variety of other factors unique to the industry, i believe that
pricing for rp parts is all over the map. i have been buying such parts for
3 years, and i have a notebook with pictures and descriptions of most of
them, along with copies of all the quotes submitted. i can tell you that it
takes a whole lot more than 1 rfq to establish any kind of meaningful
pricing trend for a given service bureau relative to another one. in case
i'm not making myself clear, a matrix of prices from however many different
service bureaus- especially when they know up front that it's purely
academic- is next to useless for business purposes. and discounts?? don't
even go there....

again, i'm not slamming the efforts of mr. cornelissen, because i'm sure
he'll learn something, but i also thought he might learn something from a
"real world" point of view.

I agree. Ethical behavior is important.

I would use care in corresponding with Phillips's people.

Wait a minute, you come to the group with a request for information in order

matrix if the prototype can be produced by the requesting firm at a
discount? Heh...

Are you going to compensate the firms that do a quote? Are you going to
tell them up front that this is for academic research? A quote takes time
and money to produce, as do the resources that the list has shared with you.
Some firms and individuals generously shared information.

Dear list,

I've sent a message some time ago with questions about RP technologies. I
received some responses and the discussions started about lazy students. But
I have a question again.
First the current status on my report. The matrix with all RP machines is
finished, with accuracy's, maximum dimensions, materials etc... The next
step is a matrix with companies who provide a "next day" service. I want to
compare the price of these
companies by sending an *.stl model to these companies. Is that a good idea?
Especially RP services in the BeNeLux or Europe. They are hard to find in
the yellow pages, and not every company seems to be active on the internet.

Question: Is there a list with RP providers in this region available?

If you have a company yourself which can provide a "next day" service, like
materialise ( www.materialise.be <http://www.materialise.be/> ), I would
like to hear from you as well. I
hope that you would like to cooperate by making an estimation of the cost of
my model.
I have also received some questions about the RP matrix, if it is available.
Yes it is, if your company can provide a discount on the first prototype
then you will receive the matrix :-).
I hope you can provide an answer to my question.

Best regards,
Bas Cornelissen
