One approach to this is to use Amorphium which runs on both the PC and Mac.
It does not take in STL directly, but it will import 3D DXF files. Convert
the STL file to DXF and you can view the files. One advantage of this
approach is the very fast rendering speed compared to most other viewers.
Amorphium is available at CompUSA (usually in the Mac section of the store)
for less than $50.
