It is not a new feature ..... just that is can be time consuming.

You go in to the display wireframe option and turn on show directions.
You then go back to the model and look for arrows on the surface. This
will show opens in the stl file. You then put a 2D patch on the surface
and stick it in. Then querry the model to see if it is well formed.

I use From Z ... Pro-E ... and Alias Studio for my modeling. I find that
I can repair most anything in Form Z. It is on both Mac and PC.
