Please find details of positions we now have available on a new research
project.

Research Fellow / Junior Research Fellow
Faculty of Computing Sciences and Engineering
Department of Engineering and Technology
2 year contracts
De Montfort University is the home to one of the world's leading groups
undertaking research into Rapid Prototyping, Tooling and Manufacturing. The
group is growing very quickly and needs new people to join the team. A wide
range of CAD, Rapid Prototyping, Tooling and Manufacturing facilities have
been installed during the last 2 years, valued at £4 million. The
Engineering and Physical Science Research Council has decided to fund a
leading-edge project to investigate a new area of work. This project will be
undertaken with a range of companies based in the UK to study 'Design for
Rapid Manufacturing'. This will involve the analysis of using Rapid
Prototyping type processes for manufacturing and the effects this will have
on the design process. This will involve investigating effects on the way
individual designers work as well as the whole design process.
Research Fellow £18,769 - £25,587
Quote Ref: 1971
You will be responsible for leading a group of two Junior Research Fellows
and a Technician. A proportion of the time will be spent in managing the
overall project between the University and the companies. The main work will
be to investigate design issues and to co-ordinate materials and part
testing. In particular you will study the effect of Rapid Manufacturing on
the overall design process. It will be necessary to travel to the partner's
locations within the UK to report on the progress of the project and you
will therefore need the capability to work as part of a University team and
have confidence to make presentations to them.
You will have a PhD and a sound knowledge and preferably industrial
experience in design.
Junior Research Fellow £11,086 - £19,611

(Materials, Product and Process Evaluation)
You will be responsible for producing materials data, undertaking rig and
field testing of new materials and designs and analysing the cost and break
even points for Rapid Manufacturing. It will be necessary to travel to the
partner's locations within the UK to report on the progress of the project
and you will therefore need the capability to work as part of a University
team and have confidence to make presentations to them.
You will have an engineering degree (or equivalent) and a sound knowledge of
and preferably industrial experience in design, manufacturing and product
testing.
Junior Research Fellow £11,086 - £19,611

(Part Geometry and Part Reduction)
You will be responsible for investigating the effect of Rapid Manufacturing
on part complexity and part number reduction. It will be necessary to travel
to the partner's locations within the UK to report on the progress of the
project and you will therefore need the capability to work as part of a
University team and have confidence to make presentations to them.
You will have an engineering degree (or equivalent) and a sound knowledge of
and preferably industrial experience in design, manufacturing and product
testing.
Technician
£15,563, - £17,098
Quote Ref: 1970
You will work as part of a team and will be responsible for operating and
maintaining equipment for materials and product testing and manufacturing
test rigs. Experience in CAD and CNC programming is desirable.
PhD Studentship
3 year studentship
£9,670 plus company sponsorship
(Design for Rapid Manufacturing)
You will be able to investigate a specific aspect of Design for Rapid
Manufacturing. It will be necessary to travel to the partner's locations
within the UK to report on the progress of the project and you will
therefore need the capability to work as part of a University team and have
confidence to make presentations to them.
You will have an engineering degree (2:1 or 1st Class honours).
