Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Manufacturing Engineering
A major objective of the IRCol is to develop complex three-dimensional
structures that may be used to support cells and stimulate tissue
regeneration. It is anticipated that the matrices and scaffolds on which
these constructs are based will be made from a variety of synthetic, natural
and functionalised materials, including polymers and ceramics. It important,
therefore, that the structural properties and micro architecture of these
scaffolds are designed to elicit optimal tissue responses in the body.

GCII The Development of 3D Anisotropic Tissue Engineering Structures

A postdoctoral Research Assistant is required to develop advanced
manufacturing technologies for the fabrication of tissue engineering
constructs from these materials. The project will also involve numerical and
experimental simulation to establish the mechanical properties of different
designs as a function of tissue regeneration. The Research Assistant, who
will be based in the Liverpool laboratories, should be an Engineering
graduate with a higher degree, preferably in the area of biomedical or
manufacturing engineering. Previous experience of computer-aided design and
rapid fabrication techniques would be an advantage.

This project will involve interaction with Dr R.A.Black and Professor
D.F.Williams in Clinical Engineering and Dr W.O’Neill of the Department of
