You're not crazy, but I don't know how much you can improve on it since I believe the sls2000's already have 4 layers of coated? glass. Maybe you can fit a reflector to the outside so you can remove it to take a quick peek. I've also heard rumors of people making swinging gates suspended from the heat shield to reflect back heat escaping to the sides.
