A Singapore company has been engaged to give a facelift to Bangalore and
convert India's information technology capital into the "IT hub of
Asia." The Singapore firm will formulate a master plan to develop an IT
corridor while the Australians and the French will provide the
"back-end" support by studying the city's archaic water supply and
drainage system and suggest remedies for its improvement.
- The master plan, prepared at a cost of $350,000 for the IT corridor,
covers a 23 km stretch between Whitefield, where the Singapore
consortium-led international tech park is located, and the electronics
city.
- This area would become "self-contained" with work, living, shopping,
civic amenities, educational institutions, healthcare and leisure,
without burdening the existing infrastructure of the city of seven
million.
- These are not the only plans for Bangalore. An Australian company is
studying the future needs of the city covering water resources, sewerage
and the needs of the urban poor. "This is part of our 2025 vision plan,"
said Tippeswamy, chief engineer (corporate planning), Bangalore Water
Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB).
