Jeff,
In one of my ex-workplaces we used to use Polytrans to do this. Maybe
Jari is still listening to the list and can tell you more - he used to
do most of our 3dstudio animations. I remember that he got quite good
conversions for creating animations from mid-size and large assemblies.
The negative side to all this is that Polytrans is a commercial
software, so no freebies...
