Wolfson School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering Rapid Manufacturing Research Group Research Associate - Salary £18,265 - (£27,399 per annum) Research Assistant - Salary £18,265 - £20,311 per annum Management, Organisation & Implementation of Rapid Manufacturing As part of the Wolfson School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, the Rapid Manufacturing Research Group (RMRG) is one of the world's leading group researching into the exciting and expanding area of additive manufacturing techniques for end-use parts. The group has extensive industrial contacts and a wide range of state-of-the-art equipment that is used for their research projects. The RMRG is seeking to appoint to two posts on a new UK DTI-funded Foresight Vehicle LINK project researching into a new and leading area of Management, Organisation & Implementation of Rapid Manufacturing for low volume or custom parts. This mixed technology / management project is funded for three years and is industrially supported by: Engineering Forum, Jaguar Cars, JCB, Martin-Baker Aircraft, MG Rover, Mitre Group and Perkins Engines. Post-doctoral Research Associate (MM/115) You will be responsible for managing the day-to-day running of the project. Your main role will be to research the management and organisational issues of Rapid Manufacturing and to co-ordinate the development of a technology test-bed that will be used to practically examine the issues raised. In particular you will study the impact of Rapid Manufacturing on the supply chain and on conventional manufacturing. You will have a PhD, preferably in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering and a knowledge, interest and preferably experience in management and organisational principles. Research Assistant (MM/116) You will be responsible for the identification of components suitable for Rapid Manufacturing and custom configuration at the partner locations. Utilising a technology test-bed, you will perform part testing of Rapid Manufactured parts. You will also be responsible for researching and developing the organisational and implementation issues raised. You will have a good engineering degree and an interest in management and organisational principles. ............................... Both post-holders will be required to travel to the industrial partners' locations within the UK and to international conferences to report on the progress of the project.
