There was an announcement on the RP-ML a few weeks ago that NC State
University was the first US facility to purchase an Arcam machine. I
don't know if/when it will be installed. According to the press release
at www.arcam.com it is to be installed in the industrial engineering
department. I did a search at www.ncsu.edu for Arcam and came up with no
matches.
The Pro-Metal is basically the same overall sinter/infiltrate process
as 3D's LaserForm process and similiar to Keltool - the difference is in
how you get the green part to put into the furnace/kiln for sintering
and infiltration. Pro-Metal uses 3D printing on the steel powder, SLS
LaserForm uses a laser and a polymer binder on the steel powder, Keltool
uses a pattern/cast mold to pour the metal slurry (simplification), then
they all fire/infiltrate.
