All:

I just received this email from Solidica. It is a great example of using
additive fabrication (in this case Ultrasonic Consolidation) to make things
that could not be made any other way.

Subject: New Solidica Sensor wins Best in Show - Chicago

Great news from the Solidica front this week. As many of you know
we have been aggressively developing a new rugged, wireless embedded mesh
sensor device combining our unique ultrasonic additive technologies with
cutting edge micro electronics. The driving concept was to leverage the
power of "cold" metal additive fabrication to embed electronics directly
within a part, sensor device, or operational component. A particular focus
of this work was to create robust wireless mesh sensing networks on
vehicles, machine tools, airplanes, buildings, shipping containers, etc.
that are rugged, smart, and secure. The news is that this week we unveiled
our first product at the 2006 Sensors Expo in Chicago and were awarded the
highest honor Gold Award as Best in Show. The device was fully functional
in the booth (gathering live temperature and vibration data from inside an
aluminum component) and was a really big hit. Needless to say this is a
significant event for us as we beat out a cadre of large, established
companies such as Motorola, Feescale, Texas Instruments, National
Instruments, Bosch, etc. If you have a moment, feel free to check out the
formal press release made by the organizers of the show:
