Subject: [rp-ml] 3D surface structures on STL-files

Does anyone know of a way to add 3D surface structures on STL files?
Some software can add 2D structures by mapping a picture on the
geometry, but to create parts with actual 3D structures you would need
to modify the STL-file (add a lot of triangles) or work with the
sliced data.

Is there any software at all that can create such structures? The new
computer animated movies appears to have very detailed modelling in 3D.
