Nick,

Another thought... when wiring control electronics which have a mix of high
voltage/current circuits and 5V MA control circuits EVERY ground is
directly connected to a single point, including the wire from the wall. It
at first glance sounds scary but no ground loops and isolation is not
compromised by a single wire. Daisy chaining grounds does cause nasty
problems and potential ground loops.A star topography tends to use lots of
wire but has always worked well for me.

I'm not sure if it applies to static but I don't see that it can hurt.
