It would be great to see an analysis of the total cost of ownership of
various models of 3d printers inclusive of maintenance contract,
typical depreciation (particularly first year depreciation of real
market value), operational costs including postprocessing, downtime
etc. It would be a great project for a student or student group,
particularly in one of the new combined business and engineering
programs, however, I think the results would also be salable if it was
done by a consultancy. My understanding is that Matell did an internal
study but it was not something that was released.
