There was an article in Cadence magazine in 1987 on photogrammetry. photos of a model of the original starship Enterprise (NCC-1701) were converted to a 3d wireframe with faces in Autocad. the article referred to a 3rd party software package to convert the meshes digitized from photos to 3d models. the process souded similar to ron jaimeson's. unfortunately, i don't remember the name of the software or exact issuee of Cadence, but it should be available at the periodicals section of many large libraries.
