Hebron, KY, September 26-- Accelerated Technologies Inc. (ATI) announced
its patent application for DuraDye(tm), an advanced process for Somos
201 rapid prototypes. ATI has commercially released DuraDye(tm) to
offer low durometer, flexible parts that are further enhanced with
increased durability and a wide range of colors .
DuraDye allows rapid prototyping of flexible components. Intended
applications include gaskets, seals, moldings and other parts that
require flexible attributes. ATI has devised the DuraDye process to
enhance the properties of Somos 201 rapid prototypes. Gary Allen,
Supervisor - Shop Operations, states, "We have developed a process that
overcomes the limitations demonstrated by Somos 201. DuraDye eliminates
the "powdery" residue inherent in Somos 201 parts while increasing wear
resistance. Additionally, this process delivers prototypes that are
watertight and that resist tearing and layer separation."
With DuraDye, prototypes can be made in a wide assortment of colors.
ATI's proprietary process also allows a wider range of durometers.
"Available durometers are anticipated to test between Shore A 55 to
Shore D 45", comments Mr. Allen.
Somos 201 was recently released by DuPont for use in the DTM Selective
Laser Sintering (SLS) process. The material is an elastomeric polymer
that can withstand harsh environments that include high temperatures and
exposure to solvents.
