well roy, i'm surprised. my instinct was that there would be very little
difference, but the values i found are 109 w/m-k for a380 and 167 for a356
(not sure what units you were using...). since a380 is only 80-89% aluminum
- a356 is around 93% - and has more copper than a356, it's easy to see why
there is a difference. a356 is pretty much used only for gravity castings,
but is an excellent approximation of most diecasting alloys.

Once again, I turn to this list for an answer I cannot find in the real
world. I need to get a comparison on a job I'm doing now, between the
conductivity of A356 (0.36 @ 25-C, CGS) & A380. My metals book does not list

physical properties for diecast alloys. Go figure!
