CT scan into .STL file

Howdy,

I actually have two questions (at least) for the group. First, how can CT scan data be converted into an .STL file format? Can anyone out there offer a cheap method of doing this?

Secondly, I have a need for building a physical model of a human trachea using CT scan data. I presume that a stereolithography UV resin model would be the best method of replicating the trachea airway, but I am open to other suggestions. This project is on a very tight budget, please read that as charity, as the patient has exhausted all her own resources in this endeavor. Please advise as to how best proceed.

I am also personally interested in using the CT scan data as an imported file type to create a 3D reference model in SolidWorks so that a silicone stent can be designed using the existing trachea geometry. Anybody know what I am talking about? I welcome any and all suggestions. This could be a good opportunity for some very positive business PR or as a first extension of RP into the medical field for the right individuals. Thanks.
