As long as you did not open the macro you should be safe.
Word 97 has a warning at file open that alerts of this type
of virus. To double check open a blank document and see
if there are any "strange" macros listed under tools / macros.
If there is nothing you are safe. If there is a unknown macro
then your default.dot (template) has been infected and will
need to be cleaned. Most virus software will clean it up.
